Come back to planet Earth Richard. Phil Allison has made a career
out of being rude, obscene and abusive to people on this and other
newsgroups. He spent years doing this - of course some people
are going to get pissed off with it and retaliate.
There is a difference between retaliation and baiting In fact this whole
thread was started by 'Spanky' Primarily with the intent of Baiting and
otherwise being offensive to Phil thereby removing any moral high ground
that 'Spanky' may have had.
If you choose to bait another person (as 'Spanky' has done in this instance)
and you then cower behind an anonymous handle, post other posters home phone
number and then bignote yourself you should not then be surprised when other
folk hold you in contempt.
His modus operandi is to cower into a corner whenever things start
to get too hot for him - like all bullies.
Well actually Phil usually Fights back (to his detriment) quite
enthusiastically when people attack him.
In fact when you follow the threads back to the beginning this is often what
people object to most about Phil.
I am actually somewhat Surprised that Phil has not fought back especially in
a thread started by a pathetic little worm like 'Spanky' maybe he is
starting to mellow or merely treat 'Spanky' with the contempt he so richly d
eserves.
There are many many points that 'Spanky' has exposed himself on in this
thread that even blind Freddy could find, I am sure any reticence on Phils
part is not due to him feeling in any way put down by 'Spanky'.
Phil Allison is a nasty piece of work - ask Winfield Hill the author
of "The Art of Electronics" - a world respected text on the subject
in case you don't know it. Check the archives on Google too,
when was it Phil? about 2 years ago?
I cannot disagree that Phil sometimes does go over board (IMO) but then this
is Usenet you can Kill file Phil or choose to ignore his Posts if they
bother you.
I think part of the problem often is that when folk are corrected on
Newsgroups (as in real life) they let their ego get in the way and become
offensive and abusive. Unfortunately these 'discussions' then tend to
escalate to the point where abuse is flying left, west and crooked and it
then becomes difficult to find who started the abuse. I found this out early
on when I was starting out on Usenet in a discussion on Power Amplifiers on
aus.hi-fi where I made the mistake of suggesting that a Perreaux 3000b was a
good high performance amplifier (It is) and got soundly told off by all the
Audiophiles on defending myself (on technical grounds) the abuse soon
started and slowly escalated into some serious obscenities with everyone
(myself included) feeling justified on the grounds that 'they started it' in
fact the end of the thread basically turned into an argument on who started
the abuse.
I have to admit that I have been corrected by Phil on a number of occasions
without him resorting to abuse. In fact when I have double checked the
detail I have found that Phil was in fact usually correct, so I have to say
that my direct dealings with Phil have not been all that bad.
Why have you signed this post with Phil's name ???
