Panic Alarm Project advice

Hi,

I am attempting to build a panic alarm, and so have been browsing the web looking for suitable alarm audio files. I have found a few & so I am now looking for a recommendation for some sort of chip or circuit board, that would be capable of storing a few small audio files.

Preferably, I am looking for something low capacity & inexpensive. I have seen a few suitable circuits, but they seem far too large capacity for my needs.

Thanks
Jeremy

Google "MP3 module". You can find lots of diffferent modules, some of them capable of playing one sound file out of a set of files depending on which button was pressed (or which external control signal was activated). These modules typically require an SD card for storing the sound files so you can match the card to your requirements.

This one is only an example.

What is it you want this alarm to do? With audio files you need controls to select and play the file, an amplifier and speaker, etc. When I read panic alarm I thought of a very loud piezo beeper and a battery.

I agree with AnalogKid.. What exactly is your application?
HaraldKapp's got good info for a complicated application, and AnalogKid's got a good one for quick and simple.
We need to know what this is for, to help you best.

It is intended as an alarm for an office, to trigger it in the event of someone demanding money at the front desk (this has happened recently).

Yes, I am aware that additional circuitry would be required - such as a speaker & an amplifier.

Please see the reply to AnalogKid's question.

Is there any particular reason why a beeper or some other low-tech system is not applicable? Front desk / sales counter / bank teller alarms, silent or not, have been around for many decades, and the doorbell was invented over 100 years ago. Since you have to run wires to the button anyway...

Or not. A wireless doorbell on ebay is $4, and will run for years on one set of batteries.
