OK - Who's been buying up all the diodes at RS?

S

Sylvia Else

Everytime I select what seems a suitable diode, it turns out to be not
in stock, and would have to be back-ordered.

**RS and, to a lesser degree, Element 14, seem to be reducing their
stock levels in Australia. Most often stock seems to be held in
Singapore or Europe. I guess the rising AUD has had an effect on local
R&D and manufacturing, which has reduced demand for stocks held in
Australia.

Don't know how RS make any money. Regulary, if I order maybe 3 things
online, they come from each of NZ, Oz, and UK. the postage must cost more
that my total spend !

geoff

global market has changed things so much. smaller companies aren't stocking items, now the larger ones are doing the same.

and how can you compete with companies that have free postage world wide. I can't post to the suburb next door for less
than about $7.

I am reducing my range to only the items that sell reasonably well. everything else is going out at discount prices.

I think "stuffed" is the correct terminology for the electronic manufacturing industry in Australia.

Cheers Don...

When Element 14 don't have local stock, but have stock in the UK, they
say as much on their web page, and give a shipping time accordingly. As
I understand it, it simply means that the parts are added to a regular
shipment from the UK to Aus, which doesn't take long, and will work OK
as long as no one stuffs it up.

RS (sometimes?) give delivery times for their so-called back-ordered
items, but I take it that means that they'll have to get it from a
third-party, whether the manufacturer or otherwise, which to my mind
means that the proposed delivery date is merely the earliest plausible
date, and the actual arrival time will be sometime between then and never.

Sylvia.
