Newb looking for help: Connecting phone to old speakers [pictures included]

Hi there, I'll be clear. I am not an "electronics person" so have high levels of ignorance and may not know things that you may think are obvious.

I have an old pair of speakers hooked up to an old hi-fi stack system... The speakers are Pioneer S-J300 models.

They are an old type which connect into the ports via a "gold wire", I'm trying to figure out if it is possible to adapt this old styled wire into a port which can connect with my Sony Xperia M2 sound jack.

If anyone knows how to help, I would be very appreciative. Let me know any information/photos you want me to find

Here is a photo of the speakers in question.

The connection ports on the back of the speakers (note the black and red wires, hopefully this is relevant in terms of a solution)

This is where the speakers connect to the actual music system I have (they are the speakers which go with that particular system), not sure if this is relevant in the grand scheme of things but I took it anyway.

The gold wire I am talking about inside the red and black connection wire.

Hopefully this is the correct place to post such a query, and hopefully someone recognises all of this.
I'm wanting to connect these speakers to my phone so i can play Spotify on the speakers.

Apologies for any ignorance in my electronic knowledge.

Thanks

Hi. Short answer is no.
The phone won't be able to drive these speakers.
You need an amplifier... or a cord to connect the phone to the original sound system, so the original sound system can drive the speakers.

Yeh I had a feeling something that that would be the case, the third picture is of the back of my amplifier. The "surround speaker" slot is the only other one on there, is that what I would need a wire for?

Thanks for the prompt help.

NO ,you should use an INPUT ("speakers ports" are outputs).
Look for AUX input (and not phono if there is one) somewhere.

I got it (kind of) sorted.

I'm using a very cheap lead (paid £1.50 in Asda for it). So every now and then I'm getting a crackly effect similar to when a set of earphones begin to die on you. I suspect this is due to the cheap wires but may be due to the age of the equipment I'm plugging them into.

You can rub your fingers on the connectors/jacks/RCAs to give a little 'hand oil'. We used to do that with guitar leads that buzzed and crackled. It's probably either static or your MP3 player headphone out is a little dirty.. Unplug it and plug it a couple of times and twist them too..Same with the RCAs.
