New Asus A8N32-SLI motherboard showing same symptons before previous death.

S

Skybuck Flying

Hello,

Today it occured to me the new AN832-SLI motherboard might be showing the
same symptoms as the previous same kind of motherboard that died.

Today I kept my computer running without the internet connected and it ran
just fine.

I can remember that with the old motherboard it showed the same symptoms...
after plugging in the internet it would freeze.

I am not 100% sure the same symptons are now being displayed... but it's
starting to seem like it.

I have now connected the internet again to post this message.

Later I will disconnect it to work on some offline website and later today I
will go online again to see what happens.

Another explanation might be a denial of service attack.

So I will keep it short before PC freezes again.

Bye,
Skybuck !

Tried to use Knoppix 3.1 to test internet connecting.

Knoppix 3.1 has NO DHCP support ?

End of log.

Captain's log Stardate 2:

I shall test the marvel port with my latest UDP Speed Test 2 which is about
to be released, unfortunately now the release will have some delay.

This new version is able to transfer 250 MB/sec through the system.

DreamPC (X2 3800+) has gigabit ports.

Not sure what Powermachine (PIII 450 mhz) has for ports, maybe gigabit as
well, it should have at least 100 mbit.

This will be an interesting test because:

1. Both systems will be stressed to the max with udp packets only.

If the systems do not freeze or crash then that would be weird, and could
indicate a TCP failure.

End of log.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Captain's log Stardate 3:

UDP Speed Testing complete.

Results:

Ethernet Port 8 as identified by the manual is stable. (Bottom port)

Ethernet Port 7 as identified by the manual is unstable (Top port)

A SYSTEM CRASH OCCURD while running UDP Speed Test 2 at full speed with
large UDP Packets.

Blue screen of death.

Minidump captured.

Next step:

Analyze minidump.

I feel now safe again to connect my computer to the internet via Port 8.

I shall reconfigure my system to use Port 8 for internet.

Port 7 shall remain unused for now until more details are acquired for this
problem.

Speculation: Microsoft's marvel driver might fix this problem ?

Bye,
Skybuck.

Marvel miniport driver version is: 8.27

I shall remove this driver and go to the windows update site, download the
newest driver from microsoft,

Then I shall repeat the test.

If this does not fix the bad port I might go to the website located at:

http://www.marvell.com/contact/cust_support.do

I don't need customer support, I need a good working driver.

Maybe that website has a good driver somewhere.

Final possibility:

Kasparov's Anti Virus 6 fucked up the tcp-ip stack.

Though it seems this driver just bad.

UDP Speed Test has proven it's value for the second time in only a few days
!

Very nice !

Soon a new version will be available at (with many improvements, mostly gui,
some speed too):

End of log.

Captains' log Stardate 5:

Before trying the driver from microsoft I will first install the 12 high
priority updates together 28 MB ;)

Download/Update is proceding right now.

Captain's log Stardate 6:

Microsoft has installed the updates.

The .NET Assemblies are being recompiled in the background.

I was afraid windows would redetect the bad ethernet port and it did.

Question is will the default old driver work ?

Maybe a newer driver was installed when I installed nvidia's chipset drivers
?

It's amazing how windows finally seems to work.

Open network connections did not work.

Maybe open network connections is based on .NET assemblies or maybe windows
does not allow the window to be opened while the assemblies are being
compiled.

Just now it seems the compiling of the assemblies is done and the connection
window pops up.

Thank god I did not terminate the cor process which is compiling the
assemblies otherwise that might be fucked up unless microsoft/windows is
smart enougj to restart it... maybe immediately or maybe later...

No... it seems there is still a problem with open network connections.

It takes very long before it opens.

I might be .NET assembly re-compiling unrelated.

Very strange thing has happened again.

Well anyway now that the open connection is displaying I shall write down
the driver version:

Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Data: 1-10-2002
Driver Version: 7.30.1.3

I shall test the shit out of this driver to see if it crashes the system as
well.

If it does I shall have to find a better driver somewhere.

End of log.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Captain's log Stardate 7:

Driver Provider: Microsoft
Driver Data: 1-10-2002
Driver Version: 7.30.1.3

Has been tested and has survived UDP Speed Test 2 FULL SPEED, Different Data
Sizes.

The old driver seems ok.

To bad I didn't look at the other driver.

The add/remove didn't show to much details.

I should have looked via connection window might have given some more
details.

My bet is it wasn't a microsoft provider driver... pure speculation.

For now it seems to work ok.

I shall use the nvidia network controller for internet access instead ;)

(Though the manual says both are marvel ports ? weird)

Such a relief that my system will now probably work ok ;) =D

Pfew !

This is actually already the third driver issue I found in a few weeks time:

Driver issue's:

1. Punkbuster Rootkit.
2. Kasparov's Anti Virus 6 Rootkit.
3. Marvel Miniport Driver 8.27 Freezes.

Tut tut tut.

Bye,
Skybuck.

Tried to use Knoppix 3.1 to test internet connecting.

Knoppix 3.1 has NO DHCP support ?

BULLSHIT!

From the Knoppix FAQ at http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Network_FAQ

18. Force the DHCP server to generate an IP address to your wireless
network connection.

So, idiot, what DHCP server do you think they're talking about?

Hello,

Today it occured to me the new AN832-SLI motherboard might be showing the
same symptoms as the previous same kind of motherboard that died.

Same problem as before, the Idiot sitting in front of it
Today I kept my computer running without the internet connected and it ran
just fine.

Great we didn't miss you at al. Please remain disconnected from the internet
l

I can remember that with the old motherboard it showed the same
symptoms... after plugging in the internet it would freeze.

I am not 100% sure the same symptons are now being displayed... but it's
starting to seem like it.

I have now connected the internet again to post this message.

Shame

Later I will disconnect it to work on some offline website and later today
I will go online again to see what happens.

Don't bother
Another explanation might be a denial of service attack.

Ever ask yourself WHY you have all these problems? ITS YOU, you shouldn't be
even NEAR any P.C
