This is, in my opinion, a topic worthy of discussion.

Checking out Jim's site, I see that he says "Most Mobile Phones can
have the LED backlights replaced, even phones with Coloured, self
illuminated screens can still have the keypad lights replaced"

Searching the web, I found a few places that sell color keypads,
batteries, etc., but nothing quite like what Jim describes.
Here are the closest sites I found:

http://vader.inow.com/~drbob/8260.html
http://www.rjsjr.com/hacks/nokia/
http://www.cellularfactory.com/
http://www.cellphoneshop.net/
http://www.gadgets-galore.net/

So tell me, Jim, how did you get into this? How did you get the
information about changing cell phone LED backlights? Is it
something that an electronics technician or engineer could
do himself?

Every little Chinese-run hole-in-the wall cell phone shop seems to do
that around here.. I guess you'd need some SMT LEDs, a soldering iron,
some skill etc.

That is basically it guys, I am actually an electronics, tv, video and radio
engineer but at the moment working as a control panel builder.

It is basically a case of removing the old, typically green, LEDs and
replacing them with different coloured and usually brighter ones.
