Mitsubishi VCR Belt Quality query

S

Salvatore

My HS-U650 once ejected the cassette with the door closed. This would
continue after I released it so I took the door off until I could find out
what gears got out of time. Worked fine for months and then began not
accepting a tape unless tried a number of times.

I ceased using it until I could get to looking at it. Now a year later, I
have it opened up and it will not even move the cassette.

Belt is intact but VERY malleable. If I pull it, it will stretch to twice
it's diameter and remain that way, then slowly shrink to it's normal slack
state. This seems to be my problem unless that is the way drive belts are
supposed to be, and that is my question. Should it be so soft and tacky
to the touch or is this the way they degrade??

Thanks

That belt is bad and needs to be replaced. Maybe you can get a shop to sell
you one. If you're in the US, Mitsubishi might stock it. 800-553-7278 (I
think)

Elasticity is low and the viscosity is too great. They often use that
formula for the pitch on roofing tiles. Definitely change the belt!
How could you even imagine it is normal behaviour? Pffft! ;-)

.... Now touch these wires to your tongue!

Thanks Mark

Always saw them get brittle and break. I guess this "newer stuff" has
different qualities. I found a kit of the 2 belts for the deck for $2 +.
