I have a question can somebody identify what is the element here at microsoft surface pro 4 board
Might be an oscillator/crystal.
I'm not sure if is defective but if i look at it it looks like burn so this only my guessMight be an oscillator/crystal. Not sure.
What makes you think this component is defect?
Improbable. This kind of oscillator usually doesn't overheat.
so why it looks like burn ? is this normal ? any way to test ?
I think you are right. i found something interesting and I think this bad guy is the problemImprobable. This kind of oscillator usually doesn't overheat.
Looks ok to me...Harald erred on that one, they are powered, so hence they can fail and cook
that looks pretty obvious from your pic![]()
Looks cracked. Doesn't necessarily mean its bad, could just be the package but its definitely suspect.I think you are right. i found something interesting and I think this bad guy is the problem
First picture looks perfectly fine. Second picture looks off but if its same board as the first picture then seems to just be lighting imo.look closer ! it's cooked

I checked X first (both with no good results) The smaller image I looked at seemed like it had some faint curves so I was leaning to 8 but this larger blown up one you are providing looks more like an X to me as well now.I don't know what it is, but it looks more like AJX to me.View attachment 49457
