Maytag refrig design defeat

S

Shell

Hi, All
I had a bad experience of Maytag side by side refrigerator,
Module#:MSD2454GRW.
The defrost thermostat defeats totally because the heater work too long.
The airflow was block by icy fin so that thermostat keep heater work util
died.
Do any complain about that?
What is your opinion?

TIA

Maytag is no more. My buddy actually had to put one on the tree lawn that was
only about 5 years old. It seems this fantastic warranty of theirs only covers
the sealed refrigeration system.

He had issues with the airflow in the cabinet, something doesn't drain right
and it gets all mucky, which is not coverewd under warranty. The guy told him
he could fix it for about $400, but inquiry reavealed that there was no
modification and the problem would recur eventually.

I guess the best advice nowadays, sadly, is to buy the cheapest piece of shit
you can find, because a "good" brand name means nothing, no matter how much you
spend you're getting shit, so at least you only pay for shit.

Anyone that wants to rebut, feel free. I would love to hear about pretty much
any new quality product that is reasonably priced and easy to service. Does one
exist ?

I haven't tried to work on my Maytag refrigerator, but have noticed a problem
with uneven temperature. It seems that Milk kept in the door was spoiling
before its expiration date. Turning down the temperature control resulted in
some items in back of the shelves freezing, but temperature in the door still
varies between 40 and 46 degrees F. I wonder if an additional fan would help?
(My Mother's smaller version of the same refrigerator doesn't seem to have the
problem.)

Perhaps your question about "reasonably priced" answers itself. Shiny new
merchandise sells because it costs less, so you come to consider that price to
be reasonable. The serviceable product costs more than one designed to be
thrown-away.

An example that comes to mind is the Apple Macintosh computer, especially the
tower versions. Disconnecting external cables is the hardest part of replacing
(or adding) internal modules. Of course the Mac has a reputation of costing
more, so it doesn't qualify as "reasonably priced" unless you put additional
value on ease of service.

Perhaps this is normal, and to be expected. I've
been seeing more and more warnings here that we
should not keep eggs in those molded holders in the
door of the fridge, but rather in the fridge body
itself.

Take care.

seems to me you need a charge of gas
low gas causes iceing which can lead you
to think there is some other problem.
also air flow being blocked off.
