Just looking for 1 of these - I think it has 4 pins

Any ideas

You may need to show us what the plug looks like. Off hand, I can't say I've ever seen one of these. Be prepared for it being a part manufactured especially for the company producing the board.

I think Dave's first link shows the same part.

Is it a for a Sony Vaio laptop (that would have been useful information)? If not, what is it for?

OK, so it may not be one of the ones linked to by Dave.

Can you measure the outside diameter of that plug?

If you get a new socket, and assuming it fits the plug, your next task is to remove the old one and replace it. Do you have the equipment and skills to do that?

And what makes you think that the socket is faulty?
 
It is 6mm

I am trying to fix it for someone else and they said that leading up to the fault, they said they had to wiggle the dc connection to get some life out of it

I can solder (up to a point)!

Do people have success with heat guns/hot air stations ?

its a pretty standard plug/socket
my HP laptop uses the same one

if you cannot get it locally in UK from Farnell etc then you will have to go overseas to mouser or digikey in the USA or to one of those links I gave you earlier
