LED Light Tower Design

I'm wanting to create a design similar to this:
I have been using http://www.mpja.com/RGB-10W-High-Brightness-LED-Common-Anode/productinfo/31518+OP/ in my projects with decent luck(due to them being insanely bright). I made a little 6"x12" lamp using white acrylic all around(80% transmission or something), but I noticed the "glow" tapers off rapidly after about 6" up. My design likely would have one of these LEDs at the top and one at the bottom with mirrored arcylic at the top and bottom panels. Would this design be sufficient to create the more uniform glow, would it be better to have the LEDs directed towards a clear acrylic tube encased in the "box" to help reduce the spread, or is there an option C?

You should use LED Light Strip instead.
You get a more uniform glow along the entire length of the column.
Otherwise you end up with a hot-spot near the light that tapers off shortly up the tube.
