Laser pointer power requirements?

M

Mark Healey

The hi-brite LED in a tube will also project
a larger spot on the ceiling, which will not
disappear into every nook and cranny in the
ceiling like a tiny red dot will.

I'll have to do some experiments on that. The ceiling is 15ft high and
the room is brightly lit.
Please consider a non-laser alternative.

I probably will. Not because of the bogus lawsuit threats but because it
will probably be cheaper.

Wow, another one for the kill file.

Stupid fucktards that announce their filter file edit sessions are
the most retarded idiots in all of Usenet. Congratulations, dumbfuck.

Putting a laser in a public area where ANYONE can gaze directly into
the beam is not only an offense for which you can be sued, it is also
likely a criminal offense, you stupid fucktard!

So, the lawsuit would NOT be bogus, you retarded fuckhead!

Eat shit and die, you fucking stoopid bat's turd!

We're not an attractive target for ambulance chasers. The money just
isn't there.

You should avoid the laser because it might harm people, not because
they might want to sue. There would be a criminal lawsuit to deal
with also, since you would knowingly endanger the vision of others.

How about one of the RF locator devices? Thingees they make for
remote controls that go missing? You press a button and a stool or
all the stools start making noise.

Helium balloons tied to stools?

Do away with the stools and install some permanent fixture in each
row?

Not a bad idea - I saw something like that up in a NY shopping center
for the carts. I suspect it was just a perimeter alarm - cart moves
off the parking lot and alarms go off on the cart.

hmmm, but you are actually retarding the matter (thread) even more.

You have took your chance :). Why twice?

The idiot is beyond help or education. 100% uneducable.

I posted "RFID!" and he responded with a kill filter file edit
session announcement.

He is beyond retarded.

I suggested RFID, and the dope OP responded with a filter file edit

I wasn't thinking about lawsuits so much as the plain fact that people
could easily trip and fall, if there is a sudden bright flash of light
as they are stepping onto of off of the stool.

Many people tend to *** look *** straight *** down *** when getting on
or off of a stool.

Mark
That's exactly what I want to stop doing.

Okay.

It's all a question of what the real risk is. From what I've been able to
find it seems that, with the red ones, there is a theoretical possibility
that someone might damage their eyes but no actual cases.

They don't have enough range.

It's all a question of what the real risk is.

No, it is not, asswipe! It is a question of LAWS and REGULATIONS!
If you are too goddamned stupid to follow decades old conventions, you
are too goddamned stupid to be fucking with lasers, much less placing
them where others can be harmed by them.

And yes, a standard class 2 laser pointer CAN do harm to someone's
eyes.

So get a fucking clue.

You're full of shit. The color doesn't even matter. It can even be
OUT of the human visible spectrum and cause harm, dipshit! What
matters is that it is concentrated energy, dumbass, and our rods and
cones do NOT take to such energy kindly. Get a clue!

LASER means:

Light
Amplification by
Stimulated
Emission of
Radiation

ASSHOLE means:

A picture of you next to the definition.

You do NOT get to pick and choose what laws, regulations, and
conventions man has made that you want to ignore, PUTZ!
They don't have enough range.

There are PASSIVE RFID devices with several meters range, dipshit.

Problem is that they too are miles outside your level of competency!

They don't have enough range.

Even if what you say is true, someone may think they suffer vision
damage (or have a pre-existing condition for that matter) and find it
expedient to haul you in for a criminal trial to set the basis for a
civil suit later (cheap and effective way to get money). And some
states may allow them to tap into a "victim's compensation fund,"
supported with taxes and fines.

The government and jury will have seen the warnings on laser pointers
and be biased that they are indeed dangerous, and along comes the
prosecutions "expert," to finish you off.

I like your idea - but I wouldn't do it.

But as long as they say they are dangerous, you won't find me staring
one down. That's a risk with no upside that I can see (little pun).

I think I read that it was now a federal offence to aim a laser
pointer at an airplane - don't know more than that (color or power
level?)

How about a little alarm clock? set the stools to squawk when it
comes time to round them up?

There are a number of ready to go products by "Ming" that use UHF and
have good range, 100's of yards if my memory is right. They make and
sell the transmitter and receivers for data applications as a building
block for other applications. All the devices can be set with
different codes for a variety of applications or control channels.
They were in the $50 price range.

I was looking at them awhile back to set up a little pager system in a
hotel where fooze ball enthusiasts compete - to know when their number
was up - only to find someone was already making a similar pager
system - used in hospitals and the like to keep track of people -
ultra cheap receivers so people can walk off with one without costing
a lot. That might be your ticket - cheap(?), high tech, and ready to
roll.

They issue these things to visitors so that they can contact the next
of kin in a hurry while on the hospital grounds - the doctors and
professionals use a different, county wide conventional paging system.

Does anyone know what kind of current a 4.5 volt laser pointer needs to
draw?

It's for a somewhat stupid project. Where I work we have 5 library stools
that are never where you need them and can be difficult to find in the
stacks. I'd like to rig up a laser pointer to point at the ceiling and
power it with some solar cells.

Why not just use ordinary laser pointers and periodically replace the
batteries?

Good Luck!

If you think that he's retarding the thread by replying to an
off-topic post, and that that's wrong, then why are you further
retarding the thread by replying to his post?[/QUOTE]

He's a troll-baiter, working towards his Master status. ;-)

You know, you start out as an apprentice baiter, then work your way up
