JEYTECH DSO138 oscilloscope worth getting?

Hi all,

In the past I built myself a PC based oscilloscope using this book: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sound-Card...00LSOR2EE/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8
By one of the forum users. I enjoyed making it and it is useful so well worth the money and time put into it.

However, I'm currently trying to create infrared transmitters and receivers which require 38khz carriers to be picked up by the IR receiver. One of the limits of the the sound card oscilloscope is that it is limited to about 20khz max frequency.

I'm thinking about these cheap Oscilloscope kits: http://www.banggood.com/DSO138-DIY-...Kit-SMD-Soldered-13803K-Version-p-984002.html

My question is does anyone have experience with these and are they useful enough of will I eventually grow out of it - one youtube video I watched suggested the frequency range is not sufficient for a wide range of uses?

I've not got the money to spend hundreds of pounds on something but there are things in the £60 range that might be significantly better than these kits. This sort of thing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Hantek-Dig...=2025&creative=165953&creativeASIN=B00EDFQ3EU

Worth saving some money or better to spend more? It would be nice not to need to boot up a PC to do some scoping. Advice appreciated.

Thanks,

dYes ive built 2 of them & think they are great value. But theres some limitations, theres some noise noticeable on the trace when theres no signal, & its noise in the unit its self. But if you are prepared to make allowances for that then they are fine. What I like is you can freeze frame it, as I can then photograph the wave form. You can buy it with an acrylic case which I have since done & makes it quite a robust unit. Its great for Automotive work. I do own a proper dual trace scope, but this is more convieniet to use out in the field. as its battery powered & in my budget.ALT ROTOR. 20A. Waveform.JPG ATOM MOD. x10 vert.JPG

Some Metal Detectors circuits, Most Radio Frequency Circuits, and Many other circuits also.
I have a 20Mhz scope and often wish I had a 200Mhz Scope.

But if the 200Khz does what you need, than buy it.
At least the PRICE is GOOD.
