Interfacing sensors to an A/D converter board-need input

Hello,

I have a couple of sensors that I'm interfacing to an A/D board, a USB based multifunction
(analog voltage in, DIO, temperature sensor) device.

I have an analog voltage sensor and an air speed sensor, both which output voltages that
are 0-5VDC.

When I connect them to this multifunction IO board, the voltages reported are spurious with random noise. I have tried another one of these boards to see if it was a problem with the device, but it does the same thing.

Is there anything that I can do to filter out this noise? Perhaps a resistor or capacitor?

Thanks.

Hi Mike
Welcome to the forums

initially it would be a good idea to determine where the noise is coming from --- ie. its source. is it mains hum ? is it some digital signal etc etc how many data counts is the noise relative to the signal you are recording ?

Then determine where its entering the ADC system, is it ...
1) at the sensor ?
2) the cable between the sensor and the ADC board?
3) at the input to the ADC board.
4) or is it actually being produced by the ADC board ?

if its entering via the cable, then what sort of cable are you using ? maybe try coax like 1/4" 75 Ohm TV coax
I use that on my ADC system for earthquake recording between the sensors and the preamp before the signal enters the ADC board. My system is running quite high gain.

cheers
Dave
