IGBT H20R1203 replacement

That is impossible to answer definitely without knowing the design parameters that were used when selecting the original IGBT for the circuit. There are a few differences in e.g.
  • total power dissipation (H20: 310W@25 °C vs. KW40: 270 W@25 °C)
  • saturation voltage (H20: 1.48 V@25 °C vs. KW40: 1.7 V@25 °C)
  • switching times
  • etc.

These differences are minor and the KW40 may work well as a replacement for the H20, depending on how much the designer of the circuit relied on these parameters. It is worth a try. Remember to mount the IGBT with thermal paste, possibly (if present) an insulator between case and heatsink and good torque on the mounting screw.
After replacement, monitor the temperature of the new IGBT to ensure it doesn't overheat. If the temperature is good, the IGBT will very probably work well here.
