How to fix broken headphones cable by rewiring?

Hi everyone.
I have a broken headphones where left speaker doesnt work.
I have tried to rewire, but still speaker doesnt work.
Let me describe problem:
headphones are with MIC switch and it has two 3.5 mm jacks, one for MIC and one for SPEAKERS.
Two cables go from SPEAKERS jack (for left and right speaker), and one cable goes from MIC jack.
Cable for left speaker and MIC goes to MIC switch and from MIC switch goes cable to left speaker.
I have removed MIC switch, cut wires and tried to rewire just cable for left speaker.
I didn't solder it, just wraped them around, but I don't have sound.
In cable there are two wires, one green and one copper wire.

What am I doing wrong?

Wire might have insulation (clear layer) as in winding wire.

Yes, there are layers of insulation, you can either remove it by cutting/scraping it off, or you can burn it, which I personally always do.

Seeing as the conductor is wrapped around a type of cotton core, I would tend to go more for tinsel flex. (aluminium conductor)
If you have a multimeter you could confirm this with a continuity test from one end of each conductor to the other end assuming you can get access to the other end.

I am not skilled with electronics, I assumed that all you needed is to join together green and copper wires, but apparently there's some problem.
Headphones did worked before I removed MIC switch, but there was a problem with MIC switch and wire connection, left speaker didn't worked all the time, there was wire-switch lose connection.

There is cotton insulation and then there is the copper wire with enamel. You need to get rid of the enamel, it will burn off really easy, or you can scratch it also.

I burned off enamel, but still not working.

Seems like there is still no contact between the wires or you have some other problems with the headphones.
