I remember some guy on this site asking several times about finding a way to adjust his office thermostat from home, before he left for work in the morning.
Just got my latest 'Nuts & Volts' magazine. Page number 34 starts a multi-part article:
'Web Browser Control of Your Home Thermostat' by Jurgen G. Schmidt.
If the guy still checks this site, maybe he'll be able to check on this project.
