Hi Pot test Parameters Setting

N

Nirvana

Hi,

To do hi pot test on IT equipment such as Desktop PC, Monitor etc..what
leakage current limit should I set?
And for Arc setting as well.
I had a machine that failed Arc at about 1KV DC and when I reduced the
voltage to 500V, it's passed.
I think this machine must still be recorded as fail although it's passed at
low voltage.

I would be much appreciated if somebody can direct me to any web site of
paper that I can make reference.

thanks n regards,
Nirvana

In the UK (and I presume all Europe), you don't do a hi pot test
on IT equipment unless it claims to meet EN 60950 or BS 7002.
You do an earth leakage test instead. A hi pot test is likely to
destroy IT equipment which doesn't meet the standards above.

500VDC is the normal test voltage in the UK, but as I said, not
on most IT equipment.

If it does not pass 500volts DC from the AC input to any toucheable
conductor, then it is certainly not suitable for use. Even a 1000
volt failure would also concern me (especially for 240Vac use).
