Help identifying a 5 band resistor

You do have a point there. If this was indeed a fusable resistor, upping the power rating is not a good idea.

I have seen many fuse resistors blow, we used to use them as indicators. The burnt dot does look like what I used to see all the time. Also a white 5th band indicates a fuse type for some manufacturers.

Update:

I ordered a 2.2 ohm fusable resistor and it came in this morning, after taking apart the power supply further I noticed a burnt patch on the plactic backing seperating the pcb and the casing. There also appears to be a burnt out component which probably caused the burn on the plastic (r127 on pcb). I still went ahead and soldered in the new resistor and tested the unit.

Upon powering up there was another pop and the power supply didn't start. I read somewhere online that if a resistor pops that it is most likely a bigger problem then just a new resistor, perhaps that was the case.

Thanks for you help, a new power supply it is. :)
