Help buying 1st TV in 20 years

My Sony 27" has given me 20 years of faithful service. A new home with a
much larger living room demands a larger set. My entertainment center
limits my dimensions to 33" wide - basically a 32" set.

I purchased a Sanyo 31" TV from Walmart last week for $277. You get what
you pay for. The picture is poor and the sound is worse. Both are much
better on my old Sony (yeah I paid more than $277 back in the early 80's).
The cabinet actually cracked 30 seconds after I took it out of the box.

I'm looking for a basic 32" standard view TV. Here's the basic specs I want:

- Excellent picture
- Excellent audio / EQ
- Sound leveling (even out the level of different stations / commercials and
programming)
- $300-$600
- No interest in flat screen/digital/HD
- Black cosmetics

Any direction would be appreciated.

what continent have you placed your couch on?

Sony, Sharp, JVC, Hitachi, Sanyo, ETC. Check the local advertisements and
shop within your price range. Advising on a particular brand ocassionally
comes back to bite one since all makes and models have their querks.IMHO
Stay away from the real cheap brands like Zenith/GL, RCA, ETC

Last month we bought a 32" Panasonic from Best_Buy for $319.
It has all the features you list below.
