Heat of LED vs Lasers

How efficient are LED's versus lasers (w.r.t. heat generation)? I suppose that question can't be easily asked, but for the same power output, which would require a greater heat sink (in general).

If you look at a 3W LED vs a 3W laser, a large portion of the body of the LED is heat sink, where a laser will stay fairly cool, though shaped differently.

I must ask as to why you are looking into it, in general LED's and Lasers are not so easily interchangable.

I was hoping it might be the other way around. It was really just an indirect way of comparing the power output. For example, if lasers and LED's produced about the same amount of heat, then one could indirectly determine (to some degree) how much light one was emitting versus another. Oh well...not gonna happen.
