Continued:
(\/ these numbers below are not page numbers... just point indications I am
examining in the manual for differences)
8. Connecting cd players same.
(I don't need this)
9. Connecting ipod same.
(I don't have one and probably never will

)
10. Connecting tv/cable tuner same. Hmm what is that, some kind of tv
decoder ? Hmm.
(I only have a tv)
11. Connecting casette recorder same, that's kinda cool but old fashioned.
(I don't have any casette recorders anymore

)
12. Connecting cd recorder/md recorder/tape deck same.
(What's an md recorder ? Who was loose cd recorders nowadays ? wow)
13. Connecting video camera / game console same.
(This/video input is getting old too (?), digital camcorders are on the way
with flash things(?))
14. Sirius connector same
(I don't have a sirius subscription)
15. Antenna terminals slightly different, some text/drawings moved to next
page. (AM/FM)
(Pretty cool now I could have my very first radio, except I never listen to
radio

)
(But in case of emergencies could be nice, especially when internet and tv
down or so)
(But it's dangerous as well.. external antenna connection needs to be
grounded)
16. External controller vs Zone2 difference here...
I don't understand this connector Zone2... weird.
17. Connecting the power cord same.
(Apperently both devices have extra power sockets to connect other audio
equipment to the receiver
so that the receiver can supply the power... only audio equipment should be
connected, not hairdryes ?! hmm

)
18. Operations/Menu map almost the same.
Difference is: Subwoofer ATT. vs SW ATT probably means same... what does
ATT mean ? hmm.
19. Audio setup same.
20. Auto setup same.
21. Check/Store same.
22. System setup same.
23. Speaker setup same, text just moved a bit.
24. Distance, crossover frequency, test tone same.
25. Restore and input setup same.
26. Now many items come which I will skip here and just name the
differences:
1709: extra: component in assign.
1709: extra: video convert.
27. Option setup slight differences:
1709: Has extra FrontA and FrontB settings.
(Extra speakers apperently possible but would require speakers of 12 to 16
ohm, I read that somewhere else
in the manual or specification... didn't mention it sooner but now seeing
this it's good to mention this).
(So that's the catch to the extra zone haha !)
(Actually this is a bit confusing... 1609 has zone2 as well... but
apperently 1709 has 2 extra speakers)
28. Now some difference occurs:
1709: 2-channel direct stereo special modes and distances.
29. Surround modes same.
30. DSP Simulation Playback, Direct playback, Stero playback all same.
31. Surround parameters same. (some abbrevations written in full on 1709)
32. First page of surround parameters same.
33. Second page of surround parameters same.
34. Third page of surround parameters same.
(Audyssey Dynamic EQ sounds interesting, maybe it can bring back the voices
of the soldiers in company of heroes' when they are mumbling
to them selves... I can hear it on the headphone but never on the
speakers... maybe my back speakers were set to low or whatever so with this
new receivers will be interesting to see if I can hear the soldiers mumbling

)
35. Fourth page of surround parameters same.
(Night mode sounds very interesting... I am definetly gonna try that out)
(The restorer sounds even more interesting... this is like the x-fi
crystalizer ?! it tries to restore the original quality of mp3/wma/mpeg4
compression)
(will be interesting to see how x-fi crystalizer and denon receiver restorer
interact with each other... maybe two is too much of a good thing ?

)
(Or maybe it gonna be awesome... for those people that don't have an x-fi...
this restorer function is something they should definetly check out !)
36. Information page same.
37. Playback page same.
38. Playback options same.
(The sound from speakers is automatically cut when headphone is plugged
in... this is not a good thing... this is how I damaged my gigaworks ?!?)
(Headphone should just always be in.. to prevent any charge from building up
in the headphone wire I guess... or to prevent any other discharge from
taking place, to bad they don't know about this... here is a skybuck
learning moment for them !

)
(It's probably better to turn off device first before plugging in
headphone... this might give headphone a chance to get rid of any currents
or so?)
39. Symbols page same.
40. Sirius satellite page same.
41. IPod playback page same.
42. Remote control buttons page same.
(I hope I can still operate my receiver if I break the remote or buttons
die... hmm...)
43. Other operations and functions same.
(I don't completely understand how to do "recording"... I think this needs a
"recording device attached" )
(Each channel volume apperently can be adjusted... nice...this is something
I could do from windows as well but ok in case a channel
needs extra power then this could be nice.)
44. Additional functions page same.
(personal memory plus seems nice... each input source can have it's own
settings,
further more each surround mode can have it's own settings as well.)
45. Remote control unit operations page almost same.
The only difference is the font/bars in manual look slightly different,
white instead of black/gray
46. Functions of buttons by component (remote control) page same.
47. Back side of remote control page same.
(wow this remote control has buttons on both sides ?! At first I thought
cool... but what if I place it on table or keyboard... will
it start freaking out... I hope not... probably not ? as long as it's not
pointed at device... but signals could bounce through room
so gotta be carefull with that remote a little bit me thinks !

)
48. Punch through function page different.
1709: has extra information for the extra remote.
Hmm seeing that little remote... makes me wonder where the volume buttons
are on the primary remote...
maybe tuning or tv vol... surely it has volume buttons ?

hmm)
(To me it seems like the little remote control was added because the primary
control is unstatisfactory ? hmm)
(I wonder if little remote control can operate the main unit/zones as well
?)
49. Amp Assign / Multi zone connections and operations different.
1709: has bi-amp playback for front speakers.
(Don't know exactly what that is... something with two amps or something...
this is getting a bit confusing in the 1709 manual)
50. Multi zone operations different too a bit..
Gets a bit confusing... the 1609 manual had a bit better drawing since both
remote control pictures are the same...
the 1709 has the little remote added to it. This could have been done/placed
better in 1709 manual.
51. About speaker installation same.
52. Surround sound formats page same.
53. Audyssey explanation page same.
54. Surround Modes and Parameters overview/diagrams page same.
55. Second page same.
56. Third page same.
57. Fourth page same.
58. Relation ship between video signals and monitor output extra page only
for 1709.
Video convert overview/diagram.
59. Troubleshooting page 1 same. (except page numbers a bit different)
60. Troubleshooting page 2 same.
61. Troubleshooting page 3 almost same. (has some extra video
troubleshooting for 1709)
62. Specifications page some differences.
Lower wattage for 1609.
Lower frequency response for video... 30 Mhz vs 60 Mhz was does this do ?
Hmm.
(Maybe they made a typoe and this is supposed to be refresh rate 30 fps and
60 fps ?)
Lower ampere/power usage for 1609.
Specs for extra remote on 1709.
63. List of preset codes page 1 same.
(I am not sure what these preset codes are ? seems to be radio/tv channels
or so ?)
64. List of preset codes page 2 same.
65. Last page mostly blank/same.
Ok peeps that's it... these two models more or less the same it seems to me.
They have a shit load of functionality... so I can have some fun playing
with it...
But just reading this manual makes me a bit tired wooooww...
But being able to change pretty much every setting could be nice... but
probably overkill
for most average consumers... but time will tell after I have one of these
babies.
The 1609 seems safer for me because of lower wattage ratings... which should
go well with my speakers.
I only wonder if there is any difference in the quality between both models
?
Bye,
Skybuck.
