Getting started with PIC's

Can anyone tell me how i can get a pic chip to control a really simple circuit, do i have to buy a control board or something? i wanted to make a really tiny light sensitive LED circuit, but i have no idea how to get a PIC wired up to do this!

i have a velleman PIC programming board and a couple of 16f627A PICS

Get a suitable PIC prototype board.
Otherwise, using a bare PIC, you'll have to provide power supply, clock and reset circuit on a pcb.

You also need the free Pic program MPLAB IDE or MPLAB X.
