Genie Microcontroller and RGB Colour sensor

Hi, I'm trying to get an Adafruit RGB Colour sensor to work with a New Wave Concepts Genie E18 board. I know the Genie board has an I2C ability but no idea how to programme it to read a colour. I can get it to read a colour using an LDR and a white LED but I'd like to get the RGB colour sensor working.

This is the sensor I'm trying to use.

The adafruit tutorials are mainly arduino based:

Perhaps the attached datasheet of the sensor will tell you more how to read it.
