Flash gun circuit, Help!

So what I need to make is a circuit for a flash gun, I have an idea for night club specific flash. Im a photographer so I'm not amazing with electronics but I can handle a soldering iron. Some of the aspects are it will run off of 4/6/8 aa batteries, depending on how much power is needed and it needs to have a control/switch that will change the power out put for the ring flash. I was thinking led's would be best to keep the battery pack small.
I was wondering if any one can tell me what parts I need to make it.
