Fix metal strips on Lithium cells

I am rebuilding my laptop battery, and i saw that the earlier cells had metal strips fixed to them very strongly. I want to do the same to my new cells. i tried to solder them many times but it didnt work out. so i want to know how to fix the metal strips on the cells. or what is the process called?

how is it done? is there any special machine for it? if i want to avoid the welding is there any other way for it?

Well that is helpful, but i made one by myself.. using a capacitor bank. it did weld wires on the cells. its working great!!!
