External USB DVD for a Laptop

Anyone know where I can get a DVD player for my laptop to connect via a USB
port. I'd like to get something around $100 in price if possible.

CompUSA? Best Buy?

I picked one up a few months ago for around $100. You might want to do
as I did and spring for a USB DVD+/-R burner and not just a player,
although that will tie you down to a mains plug to run the thing.

Many companies make external dvd, cdrw, dvdrw,etc. players and burners. Iomega, LaCie, Sony, Plextor, etc.
Go to Bestbuy.com, circuitcity.com, frys.com, compusa.com, etc.
One cavat though, dvd playback (and recording) requires a high speed link such as that provided by FireWire or USB 2.0. External dvd-roms will not work with USB 1.0/1.1. (They will physically work, but the transfer rate is less than that of a 1x dvd drive; playback of a video-dvd will be jerky at best; DVD recording will be impossible; CD recording will work at speeds up to 8x.)
I only mention this b/c the lack of a DVD-ROM built into your laptop would indicate that it is a little old and may lack USB 2.0 or FireWire. If that is the case, you would need to buy a PCMCIA USB 2.0 or FireWire card to connect the external drive.
