DSC 1832 DLS 5 locked out

Hi,

I have a DSC 1832 with RFK5501 keypad. I wanted the panel to call me on my cell when triggered, so I got the programmer cord and completed the config via DLS 5. Everything worked smoothly.

However, while trying to modify some things and further testing, it seems accessing the panel with DLS 5 is locked out.

When I plug in the cord, open DLS 5 and start communication to the panel, I go to the keypad and press [*][8][installer's code] [499] [installer's code] [499] I hear a long beep, which seems to indicate an error, and I see the red padlock fixed. After some minutes, DLS 5 times out.

When I programmed the communication module, above procedure used to start uploading info for me to work and then download it to the panel. I have faced this issue in the past, but after 1 or 2 days, accessing the panel from DLS 5 was possible again. Now it has been months since my last attempt, and it seems to still be locked out.

Just in case, I tried turning the cord in case I was confusing TX and RX, but that does not seem to help either. I get the green check after [*][8][installer's code] [499] [installer's code] [499], but still DLS 5 times out. And I am pretty sure the correct way to plug it, the one I used to actually program the panel, is the one giving me errors by now.

On the other hand, not sure if it is helpful to mention, but, if [*][8][installer's code] [499] [installer's code] [499] without plugging in the cord, I still see the error beep and red padlock. I am sensing DLS 5 access is locked for some reason, not sure how to unlock it.

I'd really appreciate your help!

It turns out it was a problem with my homemade cable. One of the little wires had gone loose inside DB9.

Problem solved, thanks to Kirkon!
