Doubling a Center-Tapped Transformer

It's been a while since I've done anything like this, and I just don't remember. I've got a center-tapped power transformer (around 0.4 kv) that I'd like to use for a project. The secondary produces 47 vac, and I only need 23 vac, so I'd like the double the current output by "folding" the secondary and taking output across the center tap and the "common" outer ends of the secondary. I seem to remember this being okay to do, but I want to ask around first. Is this a yeah or nay?

No, that would be a very bad thing to do.

Take the output from the centre tap and one end. You'll get half the voltage, and the max current will remain the same.

If there were 2 independent windings you could place them in parallel to do this, but not with a centre tapped one.

I was afraid that would be the answer. Darn, I really wanted those extra amps. You probably saved me from blowing up a perfectly good transformer. Thanks for the help.
