I wouldn't suggest getting too caught up in going for
the absolute in cheap because you might wind up with
a home that doesn't work for you.

You might want to look at these guys, they specialize
in books about home building.

If you are serious about small and inexpensive....

Look at mountain cabin....

Well yes.... CHEAP is the word here

I want something so cheap that I could in affect walk
away form it if needed. Or not have to worry abt any
resale value

Bottom line.... all I need is a place to sleep, shower,
shit, and eat and will keep me warm in winter and cool
in summer.

It doesn't even have to have any internal rooms except
for the bathroom. Would like privacy there

Anyway.... that's why I "thought abt a very small A
frame. Or... maybe shot crete dome? Or maybe a pier and
beam cabin?

Howdy:
Get a insulated container or two, and convert it. I think you can pick
them up for less than $2000.00 each for a 40 footer. There is such a
surplus of these containers in Longbeach CA, that they are a blight
on the city. There are home builders that are specializing in using
these containers for house construction, because it is so much
cheaper than any other building material out there. So, time to
get creative.

After all you must have some thing in mind when ya thinking about building
some thing cheap....question is where ? Do you have a lot ? or any other
arrangement where you are thinking to erect ya jungle cabin ?

Lets take this scenario that you don't have any lot or land ........alright
in that case If I would be you I will look for cheap trailer place, where
you pay monthly rent which is very nominal. Ok..Ok I got the picture ...you
don't wanna pay anyyyyy monthly rent. Ok in that case I will erect my camp
right in my school playing ground during summer where I am going for
schooling, No rent no nothing ....I will take shower / shitt and every thing
for free in school toilets. Man this is freeeeeeee. after all we are paying
fucking taxes for what ? Of course its ya right and they can't take it so ya
welcome to erect ya camp every night in school playing ground and wind it
up in the morning and place it in lockers and ya all good to go for free.
well this is for summer. In winter I might sneak in the school library and
behind some mountain of books have my bed and relax and lil warm sleep till
morning.

Hey why we are thinking about all this shitt ?...... can't you find a girl
who will keep you at her place ? comon man be a man .........wtf ?

One thing I haven't seen mentioned, though I may have missed it, is
where exactly the OP plans to put the thing. A cheap house that you
could "walk away from" is all well and good, but you'd better have land
to put it on, and if you do the land will likely not be a "walk away
from" thing.

I'm in north Missouri

If I bought land I would keep it even if walking away
from the building as I might come back at later date
and build a better structure on it

I just don't want to tie up a LOT of equity in the
structure in case I have to move for a job

God land can always be sold.... but land with a house
on it cant as easily
Buy a cheap beat up travel trailer and you can park it at an RV
campground while you need it and then give it away when you're done.

They want $250 a month to park an RV in an RV camp
ground. Not cheap

If you want to live off grid, you better learn to be handy.

Spend some time helping the Habitat for Humanity folks and learn how a house
goes together.

In that case you might want to look at some used mobile homes. Or for some
really cheap square footage, a 40 foot shipping container.

Is insulation that expensive ?

It ain't cheap, and the extra thick walls it takes to get high R-values
also don't come cheap, not to mention costing valuable interior living space for
a given size structure.

Not that I am against insulation, just stating the facts.

Soap bubbles are cheap, and they can be removed to let the sun shine in
on a winter day.

I kind of want this "house" to be almost disposable.
Be able to just walk away from it all

I live in a small rural town and economy isn't so good
here. Yet I cant get ahead by renting either

raw land would sell easier and better than with full
blown house on it. So have thought abt really cheap
home ...or park RV on land.
