Does this switch exist!?

Hello, I didn't know what to name this thread because I am not even sure that the switch exists! How about a little background first...

For my sisters birthday I am building something special. I found a antique looking wall mounted phone that I am integrating a a Bluetooth cell phone dialer (search the term on amazon if you dont know what it is). This will let her use her cell phone through this cool looking wall mounted phone.

I figured out how to wire the speaker, microphone and dial buttons but I am having trouble with the pick up/hang up function. Normally when you pick up the receiver it just closes the circuit and lets power flow. I want to pick up the receiver and have it close the circuit for just a moment. This will go to a switch on the Bluetooth that tells the phone to answer (and vise-versa to end the call).

I guess what I am looking for is a push button switch that when held down turns on then off. Even though the switch is held down it cant keep the circuit closed because this would just turn off the Bluetooth device (just like holding the end button on your cellphone, it will turn off the phone)

The hope is that it will be a mechanical style switch rather than a powered switch.

Does this exist or do I need to make it from scratch? Thanks in advance for advice!

Sounds like you need is a retriggerable mono-stable. I have never seen a mechanical switch with this built in, but that's not to say they don't exist. Some of the other guys might have seen one. But if you need a circuit then they are quite easy to built from electronic components.

See here for an example: http://www.maplin.co.uk/p/555-monostable-switch-kit-n32fl?gclid=CMeGoK733r8CFejpwgodxVsALA

It has a reset function so you might be able to do something to make it reset automatically if it doesn't.

Thanks
Adam

Yes, such switch does exist, mostly in antique devices like telephones and relays. A combination of 'make-before-break' and 'normal' type of contacts can also achieve such.
A modified pushbutton can do it if the contact happens half way in its travel. Open at rest, and open when fully depressed. But in the middle of travel, does the contact.

Adam that is very cool! Im looking at a circuit board as a backup because I really want to make it as simple as possible. Its a gift so if something goes wrong I wont be around to tinker with it and Im hoping at keeping the integrity of a vintage phone as intact as possible. Making my first circuit board would be pretty awesome though. Great info

That sounds like what im looking for. Do you think I can just buy a momentary push button, open it and modify the contacts?

I was almost thinking of attaching a spoked wheel (metal gear) as on contact point. As the receiver is lifted it would contact the gear and rotate the gear out of the way. I feel like I ran into something similar to this when I was restoring my '54 Buick
