Does this switch type exist?

Hi all

Im trying to build a home security system and was wondering if a switch pair exists like the following?

On one side would be a proximity sensor similar to Inductive but would only open or close based on a specific paired object such as an RF Tag. So it wouldn't open/close just by metal but by a unique pairing item.

One side would be powered but the other side would be a trigger as such, like those RF security tags.

Your description makes me think that the answer is either "no", or you're just talking about an RFID reader.

In the latter case, you're not talking about a switch as such, but something that could be used to operate a relay, and that could switch things on and off.

I purchase a couple of these a while ago and they worked well enough. You "train" them for the tags you want them to accept (I think it's up to 20 from memory).

Thats for the reply, presumably then this would have to be always on and not able to run with a battery for months?

We don't know exactly what you want the switch for. If it is to control a lock on a door/gate, then you could have a second button to enable the reader while it is being swiped. That will save battery life as it will only be 'live' while the button is pressed. However, to activate a latch will need quite a bit of power that will make the power used by the circuit insignificant and you will most likely need a biggish power source.

It will help if you indicate the purpose of the switch.

Sorry I shouldve been clear. I am absolutely a beginner to Electronics but would like to build a circuit which would detect an object through around 10mm of wood and buzz on the other side. The other side would be battery powered and would only trigger when an object, metal, rfid, or magnetic etc is within 200mm or so.
