Dell 2300MP DLP Projector color issues

S

Sam Goldwasser

DLP (Digital Light Processing) using the TI MMD (Multiple Mirror Device)
has the potential to produce very accurate color rendition. And indeed
DLP is one of the major players in digital cinema. Thus, we were
surprised to see what might be described as "muddy" yellow and red on
this projector. However, doing a Google search, it appears that these
problems are found in some other single chip DLP projectors.

But why? Is it a processing speed or optics issue? Overall, it's a nice
projector, very bright and sharp. But the error in displaying some colors
is quite obvious.

Thanks.

P.S. After about two hours of use, the lamp exploded but that's another
story. :)

IIRC these things use a color wheel, is it possible that the phasing is just a
bit off ?

If it's not that or the light source I'm lost.

Color filter wheel drive motor failure is probably the most common failure in
DLPs. Call Dell...there may have been a recall on their projectors recently.

Replacement behaves exactly the same way (within last week).
