Any conductor attached to an active antenna will change it's effective
electrical length changing the resonant frequency, therefore detuning it.
That is, unless the additional conductor is also a fundemental length at
resonant frequency or is being added as a reflector or director element of
the array.
The graphite in a normal pencil is conductive, and very probably will not be
the proper length to resonate, it will tend to detune the antenna.
