I have got an old SCR/Thyristor in TO220 package with the following
markings on the package:

16996
RCA
C 7716
K A G

I haven't found any data on this device. Has anybody got any info on it,
or even a pointer to a datasheet?

Sounds like a "house number". If so, there won't be a published
datasheet.

I have looked in my old RCA transistor books (to 1967) and old SK
replacement series cross reference (1989) for both numbers to no avail.
Obviously the "K A G" are markings for the thyristor termionals.

I agree, no sign at all of any 16996 in my old RCA books.
But 7716 looks like a date code (16th week of 1977), and
K A G looks like the terminals. I'd suggest figuring out
the voltage and current ratings from the application, and
selecting a more modern SCR.

Thanks,

There isn't an application, as I've found a few of them buried in one of
my boxes of bits. They possibly were in there for 20 years. I just
wanted to know if there's a chance to figure out what they are. I'll
measure them through, I guess...

Ah, by the way, the 6 could be a G, the printing is a bit ambiguous. But
I don't expect it helps much...

Thanks for your help, anyway.
