Curious about red residue

Hi all,

Does anyone know what this dried red goo is?

I'm replacing fuses in a Teac cd-x10i stereo subwoofer and there is a funky residue on the internals.

Thank you,

Ryan

Hi Ryan, it could be potting compound. Essentially a glue the manufacturer of the board uses to keep components in place during soldering and in some cases to lend some strength to the taller pieces of the board. (edit - true potting compound is used to totally encapsulate a board)

Yup

chopnhack is on the money ... very commonly used to keep bulky components in place particularly if there is
vibration during use
