Car Radio in Sauna

D

Doug E.

I'm building a sauna and want some music in there and I have an extra
car radio/casssette player with speakers. Can I hook it up to the
household electrical grid instead of a car battery. Thanks

I've done a similar thing with a car radio. You'll need to 12VDC converter
to run it off your 110V (220V?). You can build your own or better yet buy
one from Digikey, Jameco, etc. They can be had for a few bucks.

With high temperatures and condensing humidity levels, your car radio/cassette
player won't last too long. Make sure the recommended 12VDC supply is well
isolated from the line, or you might be unpleasantly surprised by an electrical
shock, especially if you touch something grounded while in the sauna.

Good luck

No. Don't do it. Use waterproof speakers running from a remote location. The
humidity in a sauna will kill the radio.
