best micro-ferrups

Hi all,
I have inherrited a best micro-ferrups 1Kv (b1k0034). There is no model
number on the unit. It's a 1kv unit, uses 4 X 31 amp hr batts (internal),
it have 4 standard 120v recepticals on the rear. The conrols on the front
are one toggle switch, and four lights (Ac line, ready, charger, inverter,
and fault). It outputs 8.3 amps at 60 hz. The only thing I can think of
for a madel number would be a 'B 1K'? Its a fairly big unit approx 3ft
long, 1 ft wide and 1 1/2 ft tall. Darn heavy. I would guess its 15 to
20 years old? I am looking for a manual, specs, any info you have or

We had three of those at remote sites that were part of the radio system I
maintain. They gave good service for about 15 years and then failed in a serial
fashion. Ours did not use the internal batteries, but were modified to use a
rack of external batteries to give us a few hours of backup power for the site.
I do not recomend Ferups units for home use. They are too lossy (just notice
the heat from that transformer) and they are very intolerant of frequency
swings, making them usless with most generators.

I use a Yamaha 1000is, runs the ac line protion ok. Hooked up 4 car batts
(for a test), it works. When I look at it, Got it for nothing, it has a
pure sine wave inverter, batt charger, and an auto transfer switch all
built in. All I need is 4 12v deep cycle batts (so I dont have to run
the genny all night, night lights, clock/radios). Anyway I'll guess it
uses gell cell batts or could I use reg(?) lead/acid?

We used ours with wet cell (actually AGM) batteries and an external
charger. Again let me stress, it is not an efficient unit. That said, I
suppose the output waveform is sine so it will be the cheapest 1KW sine wave
inverter that you will ever find. I will look around the shop tomorrow and see
if any of the manuals survived. Do you happen to live in South Florida?
