Battery level indicator

Can anyone help me, im looking to make a 12v battery level indicator that is displayed on a 10 segment display to visually denote the battery level. The indicator is to be integrated as a sub system of a larger circuit.

What sort of battery is it?

If it's a lead acid battery then google "expanded scale voltmeter LM3914"
