Any expert in radio-controlling drones ?

Hi.
Is there 2.4GHz drone receivers that work on 3V supply ? What about less than that, like 2.5V ?

Looking for a mile range; what transmitter power is reliable on line-of sight ? 0.5W ? 0.2W ?

Mine has a 2km ( bit over a mile) range with 100mW (0.1W) TX power from handheld unit. Interestingly I don't know the TX power of the drone.
It must be something similar to be able to send back the return video etc
 
Thanks ! Meant transmitter as the handheld control, not any return from the flying unit.
OK, good to know - 0.1W at 2.4GHz will reach the mile.
Is the flying receiver working on 3V ? - Or any on the market that does ?

And something else as it is not my kind of toy... If I buy a 4 channel transmitter and receiver boards; momentary press of a Tx button will latch-on the Rx or is it a momentary contact ?

Can you see this drone clearly at 1 mile, I couldn't and I have close to 2020 vision. (1 issue of many)
As it is a a fairly controversial issue at the moment ( and bound to become more-so) it might be a good idea to remind you of the laws in many countries that include "must be controlled in sight" . This does NOT mean via FPV.

Thanks. Drones are not my toys. Just looking for its components (boards) to implement a remote control using their guts. No intention to fly. Just turn on/off something a mile away that will be powered with 3V.

not sure, it's still under the 12 month warranty, so I am not going to pull it apart ;)

Or any on the market that does ?

I haven't specifically looked .... I went the commercial way and assoc. features

2km range
FPV .... this is really so much fun !!
25 - 30 min flying time ( depending on the amount of non-straight flight activities)
25 mins 720p HD. 15 - 20 mins 1080p ( I haven't tried a full run time yet for the video at 1080p)
Actually my only gripe with the unit is its low memory storage compared to the long flight time 7.xx GB storage and not upgradable

can handle winds up to ~ 60 km/hr
a top speed of 65 km/hr

It's a really solid drone compared to those tiny fold up and put into pocket units that have short flight times and distances

More than likely experience a much shorter range if ground based especially if any obstacles in between Tx and Rx.
 
Haven't build drones (quadcopter) but planes, so maybe you are looking other type of receivers but here are couple which can do 3V.

You will get much better range using helical coil antenna.


BUT BE AWARE ...... it will have circular polarisation ( clockwise/anticlockwise depending on how it is wound) which means the antenna
at the other end will have to match that, otherwise the losses will be considerable
 
Perhaps just watch the video.

If you have a need to go with yagi antenna, these next videos may be of some assistance.
May not be the frequency you stated but hey, can't have everything..........

Point-to-point earth communications are almost trivial, especially if neither transmitter nor the receiver is moving relative to each other. And you are presumably free to select an antenna and a frequency that will make success more certain, as well as a power supply. If for some reason 3 VDC is all you have for power, then perhaps a boost converter is all that will be necessary. You need to more clearly define what you want to do, especially in terms of how you will handle false-positives and false-negatives in the communications stream.

Re-purposing model aircraft radio-frequency remote controls appears to be an ideal way to accomplish a low-cost solution to at least the range objective of one mile. Consider elevating by ten feet or so at least the transmit and, if possible, the receive antennas. Perhaps also consider using an antenna (such as a Yagi-Uda) with gain, as you linked to in your post #12.
 
I don't see why it is necessary to run the Tx at 3v.
Most rc Tx units run internally at 5V via a regulator even though the supply battery can be as much as 9.6v in the older 36meg (72 for the states I believe)
with newer 2.4g units having as little as 6V main battery.

In another video from the same person as shown above, there is actually an instance where he shows over 2 klm and counting with a quad and standard $50.00 Chinese Flysky i6 transmitter and receiver.
 
The receiver is the one that has to work at 3V from a solar charged 18650 during the day, enabled to be activated after dusk to turn on a beacon on command.
