This AFM system was previously used by a manufacturer of precision oscillators, and was purchased new for $80,000+ USD in 2007.

Wow! Whut a bargain! My previous employer bought an AFM that more or less replaced a TEM that was obsolete and almost impossible to maintain. They installed the AFM in a locked room and I wasn't allowed to touch it, not that I wanted to get involved with it anyway. Anything that complicated and expensive should be maintained by factory-trained and authorized repair personnel, so as to keep finger pointing at a minimum when something goes wrong.
