AKAI HX-M600W dual casette deck capstan motors keep running even if there's no tape present

What could be wrong ? Does it have to do with the electronics or the tape
mechanism ?

Does anybody know if there's a service manual with schematic available ?

TIA,

It may not be broken. A lot of cassette decks run the motors whenever the
decks are on, regardless of whether there's a tape inserted. I had a Sony
that was designed that way.

I had an older Pioneer that did that as well.

It is normal.
I own a Akai GX-95 (their top-model) and a Sony TC-K666es (also one of
the top models of Sony in that time) and they do all the same: the
capstan runs when you turn them on (The Sony has a Quartz drive on the
capstan.....)

m.a.p.sengers did inscribe in digital form this eloquent missive:

It's quite normal. I have this tape deck, and the constant running of the
motor is one thing that does annoy me about it.
