air-cooled engine temp control

R

Robert Morein

Most air-cooled diesels have no temperature control.
My Dek is in a baffled cabinet, which presents the opportunity to modify
engine temperature in extreme conditions, by baffling the intake.

It's very cold here now.
As I recall, iron cylinder bores wear less when they run at a specific
operating temperature.
Has anyone attempted to control block temperature on an air-cooled?

If so, what temperature do you aim for?

Air cooled engines are designed to be low maintainace and low
MTBF engines. They really don't worry much about engine cooling
to the degree that your looking for. they just make sure that the
basic engine runs at load, at less than oil breakdown temps.

Yes, they have low MTBF, but part of this is due to lack of temperature
control.
The shape of the block and bore change constantly.
I want to minimize this by running the motor within a tighter range of
temperatures than ambient.

You're supposed to be the genius of modeling...can't you model this and
let us know how expensive it will be to gain .0001% improvement in MTBF?
