Thanks for the suggestion, I will look at that IC. I bought a large lot of russian nixie tubes and plan on making more clocks.
ETA, I just quickly glanced at the LM8650 and it looks as though it does not support a seconds output. I wonder if it could be adapted to do that? Other than that, I like the features it has!

Whew, just priced the LM8560. Pretty steep. I dont think all of the components on my clock cost what just this one IC does. I would imagine I could probably buy an entire assembled alarm clock at the dollar store for the same price or less than the IC.
