2/3/4-digits remote control code for universal remote controller

Scott

What is this remote control code? Is it an international standard or
proprietary standard? Can someone shed some light onto me as I would like
to know more detail that is required in my new project.

Thanks,

Scott

Thanks :)

Yes and that information is *very* difficult to search for and find, but
more out there.

The key word in the search which finds this information is "protocol".
Otherwise if you search for "IR codes" or "remote codes", you get a ton of
web pages telling you how to "program" your universal remote so it will work
with your TV. (The same information which would come with a universal remote
for the consumer.)

We of course want to know the *real* codes!

Thanks for the information about Sony IR protocol. However, what is the
relation with the universal remote code? When the supplier builds a remote
controller, they have assigned a code for it. How can they use one or two
or more for 10-20 models?

Well the "Universal Remotes" I have seen need to be "set" or "programmed"
for the TV (or whatever) you want it to operate.

What they would do is store the codes for each different brand of TV (or
whatever) in its memory. Then when you set-up the universal remote, you are
telling it to use that set of codes.

So at the link above, on the left you can click on codes for other brands of
electronics. All of these codes would be stored in the memory of the
universal remote plus more. You just tell it which set to use.
