Click you name between the 'New Posts' Star, and the 'New Mail' Envelope on the top right hand region of the screen. (Scroll up)
You can then click on 'sign out' on the bottom portion of the pop-up.>>
The bottom of said list wraps below the monitor. The cursor won't go there.
If the list extends past your monitor, you may scroll the entire page down and the pop-up with the log-out option will stay on screen. I should clarify and tell you that you may be able to just hover your mouse over your name without clicking on it for the list to appear. The list will not redirect you from the page you are on. If you are still having issues, I'm sure more solutions can be found.
Amazon does the same. So web designer is in expensive / rich company. Most web designers make LOG-OUT easy.

Just leave the page - so why need a password if page stays open anyway?
This is dependant on the computer you use. My computers are not publicly accessible so I am not concerned with others using is and logging into my EP account.
If you access this site from a public site like a library's computer than I can see why you want a logout button.
Also, the password is required to prevent other people/bots on the internet from logging in as you and spreading ads, spam, and generic unwanted garbage.
