2005/03/21: EnergyBulletin: World Solar Industry Growth Jumped 70 Pct In 2004

NEW YORK - Solar electricity production growth jumped 67
percent last year as established industry players increased output
and new players entered the industry, a survey said.

Last year, world solar cell production reached 1,256 megawatts
(MW) or about enough to power more than 1.2 million average
American homes during daytime.

That was a 67 percent increase over the 750 MW produced in
2003, according to PHOTON International, a German magazine.

Or about 1/3 of one watt per person in the world.

Guess I must be well above the world average. My sunroom easily heats my
house on a day like today (slightly above freezing, full sun). That
obviously would be a lot more than 1/3 watt.

How many "solar cells" does your sunroom have connected to it's baseboards?

11 4 by 8 foot "solar cells" - insulated greenhouse rigid plastic actually.
If I open the door between it and the house, the heat spreads everywhere,
including to the baseboards. If I don't open the door it will get over 50
degrees C in there.

I used to call it a greenhouse, but it got so ferociously hot that it would
roast almost anything you tried to grow, so I turned it into a sunroom.
Great winter addition.

Divert some of the power produced by your "solar cells" to an appliance then
or install a thermostat on it.
