Who else has been having problems with wire boxes full of knots.?
We average 7 out of 8 box with knots in the wire..
Seems most of the manufacturers using boxes have the same problem..

No knots, but the Atlas quad burg I've bought lately is a real bear to strip
the jacket. It won't slip right off like before.

Yeah, for sure....about one in five boxes usually ends up being taken apart
at some point to untangle the wire....a real pain in the butt !!

One reason (I'm told) is if the boxes get thrown around in the truck a lot,
this can happen because of that....

explain that logic to me please... if the wire is on a spool and its wound
tight, why should tossing it around make a difference?

the last box i got was a cat5 wire .. and i opened it up cuz there was a
not.. its on a spool ....
maybe i get retarted peoples wire

No, it's not on a spool...its simply wound around several integrated
cardboard guide points. So I guess jostling the wire around can somehow mess
things up....at least that's the logic as it was explained to me.....

I just know that too damn many boxes of wire need to be unsorted for my
tastes...

Oh yeah, bushings pulling out is very common. Never had any broken wire
though. If a box snarls within about the first 100 feet or so, I return it
as defective....

He's talking about the spool-in-a-box affair. I have some of those, usually
the heavier cable like coax but I've seen Cat 5 packaged that way too.

I've used Genesis wire for years.
Sure.

It rarely gets snarled but the bushings
sometimes pull out. I always kept cable boxes in a neat stack in the van
and made an effort not to toss them.

Of course you did.
New England wire was horrible..
frequently snarled and sometimes even had breaks.

Umm-hmmm. Whatever.

Those knots are intended to be there, it seems some wire makers add them to
please old farts who think knots in wire make good surge protectors

You do realize he has visited the factory and knows the employees by first
name basis right?

You forgot to mention he also receives regular updates by email from someone
in tech support by the name of Warren/Mark/Jane/Judy (pick one)...

If the industry thinks that boxed wire is easier on the installers, then I
think their full of s$%^t..
Give me back my wire on a spool...
At least with the spooled wire I could put it on a roll-a-round rack
Throw it in the truck, and not worry about knots or tangles...
and guess what the spool didn't come apart if it got wet..

"Give me back My Spool-of-Wire"...

Thanks You...

Boxes that get tossed around and dropped seem to get lots of knots in them.

There are some box packs that have the wire on a spool inside, but most are
not like that. I recently got a bunch of coax like that, and i have gotten
cat 5 like that in the past.

Let's all start asking for quad on reels. The boxed stuff is at the cheapest
I've ever seen it. I'd pay a little more for a reel.

You should try installing "Protectowire"
(http://www.protectowire.com/products/protectowirelhd.htm). It comes in
rolls exactly as you see on the web page... It's a b*tch to work with and I
wrecked a perfectly good pair of side cutters (no one told me the "wire" had
the consistency of "spring steel")... My wholesaler only said... "It's
easy to work with... when you're going to make a bend, make sure to use 18"
radius turns, support the wire in the middle of the bend and every 36" on a
straight run, and use the special strain relief's for when you're
terminating into the junction boxes..." Grrrr!

I visualize Robert with an elbow on the factory counter talking at long
lengths about the pros and cons of each and every spool of wire he's ever
used and the 2 employees on the other side of that same counter looking
eagerly at the wall clock hoping and praying for 5:00 to come along....
