Where can I buy small quantities of surface mount components?

Does anyone know where I can buy (in Melbourne) small quantities (ie 100
of this, 50 or that) of various surface mount components?

What I'm particularly after is 0603 resistors and caps, and general
purpose small signal diodes and transistors in SOT23 packages.

Altronics have a good range of 0603 & 0805 resistors and chip capacitors.
they also carry a limited range of smd diodes and transistors (about 4
different types of each I think)

they are a Perth based company, but they'll probably have a distributor in
Melbourne somewhere.

Yep, Altronics. The mail order service is pretty quick, but alas no 1206
package styles. You can use an 0805 across a set of 1206 pads if you are
careful.

I see that RS have deleted standard surface mount part stocks in favour of
the more expensive 1% tolerance range. The price of those has doubled in 2
years too. My latest quote was for $70 for the 14 resistor values that I
didn't have. You have to buy 50 of each it seems.

I am getting resistors from Arrow in Melbourne. A Reel of resistors is under
$20A. An reel is 5000pc.

If you want to get a 50 or so resistors, it will cost you about same from
Farnell.

That 2M4 is your problem peter. Farnell have 2M2 or 2M7. Bulk suppliers
may not have 2M4 as a stock line either.
