What's this three-terminal device? T600H

It's on a board that came out of a breadmaker - I'm hoping it's a small
voltage regulator as I could use one...

Same package as a small transistor - epoxy cylinder with one flat side.

Marked with <Motorola symbol>823
(next line) T600H

Google, Digikey, and motorola search get no hits.

The TO-92 package device is probably a "house numbered" part. If so, no
telling what it could be except
1) call the manufacturer and ask, or
2) try to figure out enough of the circuit around the device to make an
educated guess.

Questions of this type usually get posted on sci.electronics.repair or .basics.

Good luck.

Assume that it is a transistor and use the diode tester function of a
DMM to find the diodes. If you succeed you know that it IS a BJT
transistor and what type, npn or pnp.
Then use the transistor tester function to find the hFE value.

If this fails chances are greater that it is a voltage regulator.

It could also be a TO-92 triac..

kood bee a TRIAC, kood bee a SCR, kood bee a temp-to-voltaj convertor-
kood bee a voltaj refurens, kood bee a phet, kood bee a regulartor, kood

My guess would be a TO-92 packed TRIAC. OR try using the diode check function on a
multimeter to identify if it's a transistor. Discover if it's PNP/NPN and use a
transistor test function to evaluate hFE.
